Where will my Edison traffic offense or criminal charge be heard?

The Edison Municipal Court has limited jurisdiction to handle ordinance violations, traffic tickets and misdemeanor criminal charges that are called disorderly persons offenses under New Jersey Law. If you are facing an offense falling in one of these categories, it will be heard in the Municipal Court of Edison. Conversely, an offense that is indictable, meaning that it is a crime of the first degree, second degree, third degree or fourth degree, falls under the authority of the Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick. Your case will be transferred to the county courthouse if it is of this nature. You should also know that restraining order hearings can only be heard at the Superior Court except that they are dealt with in the Family Division.
