There are many cases filed in New Brunswick which fall outside the jurisdiction of the city municipal court. As the home to the Middlesex County Superior Court, more indictable crime complaints were filed in the municipality than any other at 1,933. There is no authority on the part of the New Brunswick Municipal Court to hear these cases beyond initial arraignment. Notwithstanding, there were 3,353 disorderly persons offenses and 13,836 moving traffic offenses for driving while suspended, operating without insurance, leaving the scene of an accident and other violations processed at the municipal court level.
